How to sign a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box above or click to choose it.
  2. Under Your signature, draw it, type it or upload a photo, then click Add signature.
  3. Drag it over the page onto the signature line and resize it from the corner.
  4. If needed, add your name and the date, or your initials on the other pages.
  5. Click Download signed PDF.

Three ways to create your signature

  • Draw it with your mouse, finger or a stylus. The stroke is smoothed automatically and you can choose the colour and thickness.
  • Type it in a handwriting font, if you don't like how it looks with a mouse.
  • Upload a photo of your signature on paper. We remove the white background so it looks clean (more about scanned signatures).

The signature is stored in the PDF as a transparent PNG image on top of the page. The rest of the document isn't touched: the text stays selectable and nothing loses quality.

Private by design

Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.

Is a signature like this legally valid?

What you create here is a simple electronic signature: an image of your signature placed on the document. Many legal systems accept electronic signatures in general, but they also distinguish stronger types. In the European Union, for example, the eIDAS regulation (article 25) says an electronic signature can't be denied legal effect just because it's electronic, but only a qualified electronic signature, made with a qualified certificate, has by law the same effect as a handwritten one.

In practice, a drawn signature works for many private documents (quotes, school consent forms, timesheets, agreements between individuals) when the other party accepts it. If there were ever a dispute, its value as evidence would depend on other proof, such as the emails you used to send the document. Rules vary by country and by document, and we can't guarantee it's valid in your particular case.

Government portals and other official procedures often require a certificate-based or qualified signature, made through their own system or with a digital certificate, rather than an image of your signature. In Spain, for instance, public bodies usually ask you to sign on their online portal (sede electrónica) with a digital certificate such as the FNMT one, the electronic ID card (DNIe) or Cl@ve Firma, and a drawn signature isn't accepted there. Each organisation decides what it accepts, so if you're asked for a signed document, check the instructions or ask first.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits.

Is a drawn signature on a PDF legally valid?

It's a simple electronic signature. EU law, for example, doesn't deny it effect just for being electronic, but it isn't equivalent to a handwritten signature the way a qualified, certificate-based signature is. It's often accepted for private documents; official procedures usually ask for a certificate.

Does it lose quality, and can I still select the text?

No. The signature is added as an image on top of the page and the rest of the PDF stays the same: the text remains selectable and images aren't recompressed.

Can I add several signatures or sign several pages?

Yes. Move between pages with the arrows and add as many signatures, initials and text boxes as you need. "Add to every page" copies the selected item to all pages.

Can I use it to sign an official or government procedure?

Usually not. Government portals often require a certificate-based or qualified signature made through their own system. Check the instructions for each procedure.
