Reduce a PDF for Social Security

The Spanish Social Security e-office has some of the lowest limits. Here are the ones it publishes and how to prepare your documents and ID to fit.

1 · Document

2 · Maximum size

1 MB = 1,024 KB. If the form doesn't say, leave a little room under the limit.

3 · Result

  1. Lossless first

We rebuild the PDF's internal structure. If that's enough, the text stays selectable.

  2. If not, exact size

We turn each page into an image and find the highest resolution and quality that fit your limit.

  3. Download and done

You see the final size against the limit and a preview before saving.

Everything runs in your browser. Your document is never uploaded to any server.

The limits Social Security publishes

  • INSS benefit application without a certificate: each document up to 5 MB, each image of one side of the DNI or NIE up to 4 MB, and the whole application up to 23 MB. Source (Spanish).
  • Social Marine Institute requests: all documentation together up to 5 MB. Source (Spanish).

Checked on 23 October 2026. Each Social Security procedure may have its own limit: look at the one on the attachment screen. More bodies in the guide to file size limits on Spanish e-offices.

How to prepare your ID for the 4 MB per side limit

A photo of an ID card taken with a phone often weighs several MB. With ID card front and back you can keep each side under 4 MB, on one sheet, on two sheets or as a JPG image. If they want each side in its own file, use Reduce image with each photo.

Private by design

Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.

How to reduce your other documents

This page opens the compressor at 5 MB, the per-document limit of the INSS application. If the application's total goes over 23 MB, compress each document to a smaller size.
