How to reduce the file size of an image
- Drop one or more photos into the box above or click to choose them.
- Enter the maximum file size you've been given or pick one of the common ones.
- If you're also given pixel dimensions, turn on “Change width and height”.
- Click Resize, compare before and after, and download.
Where do they ask for a maximum file size?
A 100 KB limit shows up, for example, on:
- Government, tax and immigration portals.
- Job, university and visa applications.
- Email, learning platforms and websites that reject heavy photos.
Each organisation or website sets its own requirements. Always check the form's instructions: besides file size, they may ask for a specific format, dimensions or background.
As a rough guide, a normal JPG photo of 100 KB usually ends up at around 1000 × 750 px. It depends on how much detail the image has.
Private by design
Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.
File size and dimensions are not the same
The file size is how much space the file takes (KB or MB). The dimensions are the pixels of width and height. Many forms only limit the file size; others also ask for specific dimensions.
If you're only given a file size, leave the dimensions alone: we find the highest possible quality and only reduce pixels if there's no other way. If you're given dimensions, turn them on and the file size is adjusted while keeping them.

Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits.
How do I get my photo under 100 KB?
Choose the photo, keep 100 KB as the maximum file size and click Resize. The best quality that fits is found and, only if needed, the pixels are reduced.
What if it can't reach the size?
It happens with very detailed photos and very low limits. Try cropping the part you don't need or, if allowed, raise the limit a little.
Which formats can I resize?
JPG, PNG and WEBP. The result is JPG (the most compatible) or WEBP if you choose it. Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG first.
Why is a PNG so big?
PNG stores the image losslessly, which is great for graphics but very heavy for photos. As a JPG it usually takes a fraction of the size. Transparent areas turn white.
