Split a PDF by file size

Enter the maximum size per file and we add pages to each part as long as it fits. For when a portal accepts several files but limits each one.

1 · Document

2 · How to split

Check the limit on the form itself. 1 MB = 1,024 KB. If a single page is already bigger, it goes on its own and we'll tell you: in that case, compress the PDF first.

3 · Result

  1. See every page

When you open the PDF, thumbnails show you what's on each page.

  2. Choose how to split it

Specific pages, one per file, every N pages or by maximum file size.

  3. Download each part

Pages are copied as they are: no loss of quality and the text stays selectable.

Everything runs in your browser. Your document is never uploaded to any server.

How to split a PDF by size

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Enter the maximum size per file that the portal accepts.
  3. Click Split PDF. We fill each part with pages as long as it fits.
  4. Check the size of each part and download them.

Why split a PDF by size?

  • Many government, visa and immigration portals limit the size of each file but let you attach several.
  • Job, scholarship and university application portals usually cap each document.
  • Some email servers reject large attachments.
  • If you don't want to lose quality by compressing, splitting keeps every page exactly as it is.

Private by design

Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.

Tip

The limit depends on each organisation and usually appears next to the attach button. Leave a little room: some portals count 1 MB as 1,000 KB. If the portal only accepts one file, what you need is to compress the PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits.

Why do the parts add up to more than the original?

Each part needs its own copy of the fonts and resources the pages share. It's normal for the total to grow a little.

What if a single page is over the limit?

That page goes in its own file and we mark it in red. To make it fit you'll need to compress it, for example with our compress PDF tool.

Is the size exact?

Each part is actually generated and measured before it's accepted, so none goes over the limit except pages that are already bigger on their own.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are into the new PDF, without turning them into images or recompressing them. The text stays selectable.

Does it work with protected PDFs?

If the PDF is encrypted or asks for a password, it can't be split here. Open it in your PDF reader, remove the protection or save a copy without it, and try again.
