Compress image to 20 KB

For forms with a tiny upload cap, like the ones that ask for a scanned signature or a small photo. The image never leaves your device.

1 · Photos

2 · Maximum file size

1 MB = 1,024 KB. If the form doesn't say, leave a little room under the limit.

3 · Dimensions

4 · Format

5 · Result

  1. Quality first

We find the highest JPG or WEBP quality that fits your limit, without touching the pixels.

  2. If not, the dimensions

We shrink the width and height just enough for it to fit. If you set dimensions, they are kept.

  3. Compare and download

You see file size, dimensions and a before-and-after preview, then download each photo or all of them.

Everything runs in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.

How to resize a photo to 20 KB

  1. Drop one or more photos into the box above or click to choose them.
  2. Check the maximum file size is set to 20 KB (it's already filled in).
  3. If you're also given pixel dimensions, turn on “Change width and height”.
  4. Click Resize, compare before and after, and download.

Where is a photo under 20 KB required?

A 20 KB limit shows up, for example, on:

  • Older application forms that limit each image to just a few KB.
  • The scanned signature some exam and recruitment forms ask for separately.
  • Profile photos on school, college or training platforms.

Each organisation or website sets its own requirements. Always check the form's instructions: besides file size, they may ask for a specific format, dimensions or background.

As a rough guide, a normal JPG photo of 20 KB usually ends up at about 400 × 300 px. It depends on how much detail the image has.

Private by design

Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.

What to expect at 20 KB

20 KB is very little for a photo. To get there, the image has to be small: it usually ends up around 400 × 300 px. It looks fine on screen, but it's not meant for printing large.

If it's a signature or a black-and-white document, crop the empty margins first. The less wasted area, the more sharpness is left for what matters.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits.

How do I get my photo under 20 KB?

Choose the photo, keep 20 KB as the maximum file size and click Resize. The best quality that fits is found and, only if needed, the pixels are reduced.

What if it can't reach the size?

It happens with very detailed photos and very low limits. Try cropping the part you don't need or, if allowed, raise the limit a little.

Why does my photo look small after compressing it to 20 KB?

Because not many pixels fit in that size. JPG quality is lowered first and, if that's not enough, the pixel dimensions are reduced until it fits.

Can I compress a scanned signature to 20 KB?

Yes. Crop it so there's no extra white paper around it and choose 20 KB. A signature has little detail and usually stays sharp.
