At half a megabyte the photo barely changes to the eye. Useful for email, learning platforms and sites that reject multi-MB photos.

  1. Quality first

We find the highest JPG or WEBP quality that fits your limit, without touching the pixels.

  2. If not, the dimensions

We shrink the width and height just enough for it to fit. If you set dimensions, they are kept.

  3. Compare and download

You see file size, dimensions and a before-and-after preview, then download each photo or all of them.

Everything runs in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.

How to resize a photo to 500 KB

  1. Drop one or more photos into the box above or click to choose them.
  2. Check the maximum file size is set to 500 KB (it's already filled in).
  3. If you're also given pixel dimensions, turn on “Change width and height”.
  4. Click Resize, compare before and after, and download.

Where is a photo under 500 KB required?

A 500 KB limit shows up, for example, on:

  • Attaching photos to an email without going over the server limit.
  • Learning platforms and assignment portals that limit each file.
  • Rental and marketplace sites that ask for lightweight photos.

Each organisation or website sets its own requirements. Always check the form's instructions: besides file size, they may ask for a specific format, dimensions or background.

As a rough guide, a normal JPG photo of 500 KB usually ends up at 2000 to 2500 px on the long side. It depends on how much detail the image has.

Private by design

Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.

Almost lossless

At 500 KB it's usually enough to lower the JPG quality slightly, without changing the dimensions much. Most phone photos end up at 2000 to 2500 px on the long side, with plenty of detail for small prints.

If you're emailing a lot of photos, resize them all at once and download them together.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits.

How do I get my photo under 500 KB?

Choose the photo, keep 500 KB as the maximum file size and click Resize. The best quality that fits is found and, only if needed, the pixels are reduced.

What if it can't reach the size?

It happens with very detailed photos and very low limits. Try cropping the part you don't need or, if allowed, raise the limit a little.

Is the difference noticeable at 500 KB?

For most photos, not to the naked eye. Compare the before and after preview before downloading.

Can I download all the photos at once?

Yes, with the “Download all” button. Your browser may ask permission to save several files.
