Split a PDF into 1 MB files

If the portal accepts several files but limits each one to 1 MB, split your PDF here: every part is actually measured and none goes over the limit.

1 · Document

2 · How to split

Check the limit on the form itself. 1 MB = 1,024 KB. If a single page is already bigger, it goes on its own and we'll tell you: in that case, compress the PDF first.

3 · Result

  1. See every page

When you open the PDF, thumbnails show you what's on each page.

  2. Choose how to split it

Specific pages, one per file, every N pages or by maximum file size.

  3. Download each part

Pages are copied as they are: no loss of quality and the text stays selectable.

Everything runs in your browser. Your document is never uploaded to any server.

How to split a PDF into 1 MB files

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Enter the maximum size per file that the portal accepts.
  3. Click Split PDF. We fill each part with pages as long as it fits.
  4. Check the size of each part and download them.

What's next?

What to expect with 1 MB parts

With 1 MB (1,024 KB) per part, how many pages fit depends on how heavy each one is: a text PDF spreads dozens of pages over a few parts, while a colour scan only fits a handful per part. The table gives you the count.

Average weight of a pagePages per part
50 KB20
100 KB10
200 KB5
500 KB2
1 MB1
2 MB1 (the page alone is already over the limit)
6 MB1 (the page alone is already over the limit)

Rough figures: each part repeats the fonts and resources the pages share, so in practice it may hold a little fewer. The tool measures every part for real.

Private by design

Most online tools upload your files to their servers. Not here: everything is processed in your own browser and nothing is ever sent anywhere. That's why you can safely use it with your ID, passport, payslips, medical reports or contracts.

If a single page weighs more than 1 MB

A page can't be cut: if one alone is over the limit, it goes in its own file and we mark it so you can see it. To make it fit, compress that PDF with Compress PDF to 1 MB.

Tip

If your PDF is colour scans and too many parts come out, compress it first to a lower weight per page: more pages will then fit in each 1 MB part.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser. Your files never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits.

How many parts will I get if my PDF is 10 MB?

At least 10, because no part can exceed 1 MB, and usually a few more, since each part repeats the fonts and resources the pages share. You'll see the exact number when it finishes.

What if the portal wants a single 1 MB file?

Then splitting won't help: you need to compress. Use Compress PDF to 1 MB.

What if a single page is over the limit?

That page goes in its own file and we mark it in red. To make it fit you'll need to compress it, for example with our compress PDF tool.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are into the new PDF, without turning them into images or recompressing them. The text stays selectable.

Does it work with protected PDFs?

If the PDF is encrypted or asks for a password, it can't be split here. Open it in your PDF reader, remove the protection or save a copy without it, and try again.
